Fatigue
Everyone
experiences fatigue from time to time due to overexertion or not
sufficient sleep. However, if fatigue persists for a long period of
time and a person still feels tired with sufficient rest and daily
activity is affected, the person may suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome
(CFS).
Chronic
fatigue syndrome is not a disease but a complex array of symptoms. The
symptoms of CFS include aching muscle and joints, anxiety, depression,
difficulty thinking and concentrating, poor memory, low-grade fever,
headaches, gastrointestinal problems, mood swing, and the feelings of
extreme fatigue. The cause of CFS is not known. Some experts
think that it is related to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) but there is little
evidence to support this. Women are also more likely to develop CFS
than men.
Chronic
fatigue syndrome is difficult to diagnose. Other medical conditions
that can cause similar symptoms have to be ruled out first. CFS can
be helped by a regular and relaxing lifestyle, light exercise, sufficient
rest and a healthy diet. Even if a person does not have CFS, fatigue
is a warning sign that the body is under stress, and the person is more
vulnerable to other diseases. Some health food supplements can
